COE named NGA/USGS Center of Academic Excellence
The College of Engineering at The Ohio State University has been awarded the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) designation of Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) designation in Geospatial Sciences (GS). This designation indicates that The College of Engineering's curricula align with criteria outlined in the processes and Knowledge Units specified in the NGA Geospatial Sciences CAE application process.
Some very important elements of the program are twice-yearly, site visits to OSU by a team comprised of NGA/USGS personnel. OSU is hosting the joint NGA/USGS team on campus April 5-7 which coincides with the Tenth Annual COUNT Informational Meeting. The main objective of the visit is to get an insight into GS related programs, and includes activities such as discussions with faculty and students as well as visits to labs and class sessions. The four-member NGA/USGS team will give presentations that address organizational structure of the agencies as well as the future needs of and various career opportunities with NGA and USGS.
