Shape-changing, adaptive structural components and systems for smart infrastructure

headshot_hu.jpg
Professor Nan Hu directs CEGE's Versatile Structures Laboratory, which applies an interdisciplinary approach to develop sustainable and resilient structural solutions in a variety of length scales. Dr. Hu seeks to design modular structural elements and systems using mechanical instabilities to achieve multi-functional features beyond their traditional roles of carrying loads. He is particularly interested in morphing and reconfigurable structural systems using origami and kirigami, biomimetics and bio-inspired structural design and self-sensing, self-healing and self-repairing materials against structural degradation.
