Modeling hydrologic extremes to decrease drought vulnerability

Professor James (Jim) Stagge's research focuses on modeling hydrologic extremes with the goal of decreasing drought vulnerability. To accomplish this goal, he adopts a broad temporal perspective that bridges centuries of reconstructed pre-Industrial hydrology with modern observations and projected climate change scenarios, thereby merging past, present, and future. Dr. Stagge's diverse background in hydrology and expertise in statistical methods allows his work to link these disparate data sources to produce exciting new research in this emerging and globally relevant field. Professor Stagge's research to date has
focused on four primary topics related to drought and hydrologic extremes:

  • Drought vulnerability due to climate change
  • Reconstructing historical streamflow at a monthly scale
  • Drought drivers and seasonal dynamics
  • Societal, environmental, and economic impacts of drought.
