RESEARCH | STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE LAB

Design, Evaluation and Analysis of Structures

Testing of structural components, static and dynamic analysis of the structural system and members, and evaluation of current design guidelines. Specifically:

  • Buildings: Collapse performance of buildings is investigated through experiments, computational modeling and analysis.
  • Bridges and culverts: Structural evaluation, field testing, and analysis of bridge or culvert structures are performed. New analytical models and software are developed or existing software and tools are validated for design and assessment.
  • Industrial, historical, nuclear and other structures: Numerical modeling, probabilistic seismic risk assessment, performance based design and evaluation, and repair and retrofit methods are developed and investigated for various structures.

Research on Reinforced Concrete

Development and implementation of computer models to investigate the strength and deformation response of reinforced concrete structures and their components, including columns and beam-column joints, under extreme loading conditions such as earthquakes. The research also includes evaluation, repair and strengthening of concrete structures and components.

Value Assessment and Sustainability of Concrete Structures

Investigation of sustainability of structures including life cycle cost analysis.

Dynamic Response of Structures and Earthquake Reconnaissance

Investigation of dynamic response, seismic performance evaluation, and structural modeling and analysis of variety of structures including industrial and monumental structures.
