Professor Mark McCord conducts research in transportation systems, engineering, and planning. He is particularly interested in finding new transportation uses for data automatically collected for other purposes. In the past he has developed applications of using satellite altimetry data to derive ocean currents for ship routing and satellite and airborne imagery of roadways to determine traffic estimates. He is presently using truck location and timing data to document times trucks incur in multiple activities associated with crossing international borders and data automatically collected on transit buses to infer passenger movements and traffic conditions. In this capacity, he is co-founder and co-leader of OSU’s Campus Transit Lab. Professor McCord is also interested in incorporating forecasting uncertainty in transportation travel models.
