About

Dr. Jieun Hur is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering at The Ohio State University. Dr. Hur received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and her B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Ewha Womans University, South Korea. She has a diverse portfolio of experiences, which range from professional practice as a registered Professional Engineer in both  the U.S. (civil engineering) and South Korea (structural engineering) to academic research and teaching at Ohio State and Georgia Tech.

Dr. Hur has led and worked on various research projects, published over 30 journal and conference papers, and had over 20 presentations and technical reports. Her research interests are in the general areas of structural and infrastructure engineering including the application of probabilistic methods for performance and damage assessment of structural and nonstructural components. She has generated analytical and numerical models to capture complex nonlinear behavior of such equipment and evaluate their performance using nonlinear dynamic analyses.

Dr. Hur is a member of ASCE’s Technical Committee on seismic certification of nonstructural components using shake table testing. She is a member of  ASCE/SEI, AISC, ACI, EERI, and ANS. Her research has been supported by such organizations as the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Transportation, Sustainable and Resilient Economy (SRE) at Ohio State, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Korea Research Institute of Smart Materials and Structures, Inc., among others
