SPIN Lab presents research at COUNT meeting
On April 3-4, 2018, dozens of university and government researchers and their counterparts from industry convened the Twelfth Annual Information Meeting of the Consortium of Ohio Universities on Navigation and Timekeeping (COUNT.) Held at The Ohio State University, the meeting also featured student researchers from the consortium's academic institutions, including members of The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering's Satellite Positioning and Inertial Navigation Laboratory (SPIN Lab.)
Presentations by representatives of government agencies such as the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicle Directorate and industry partners such as Northrup Grumman Corporation, Honeywell International, Inc. and Rockwell Collins, Inc. highlighted their organization's current research and future initiatives as dictated by the current, state of the art of navigation, timekeeping, registration and geospatial technologies.
Charles Toth, Research Professor, CEGE and Co-Director of SPIN Lab, presented an Overview of Navigation Related Research at The Ohio State University SPIN Laboratory on Tuesday, April 4. During his lecture, Professor Toth emphasized Ohio State's GEOINT / Geospatial Program Initiative, a university research endeavor undertaken to address the following trends:
- Rapidly increasing demand in the GEOINT field
- Increasing overlap among the disciplines of big data, data analytics, geomatics and navigation
- Convergance of navigation and mapping
- Harnessing the data revolution
Following Toth's presentation, members of SPIN Lab hosted a poster session during which students discussed ther current research with attendees of the Information Meeting. COUNT seeks to develop future navigation professionals via events such as this where students are exposed to and participate in mulitdisciplinary research and are given the opportunnity to interact with industry and government experts in the disciplines of navigation, timekeeping and geospatial technologies.
