Halil Sezen, Professor of Structural Engineering, was named the Precast / Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI)Educator of the Year. The award, presented in October, 2016, recognizes educators who have demonstrated sustained educational contributions and impact on the education of undergraduate, graduate, and/or continuing education students.

Professor Sezen's contributions to scholarship and service were further recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) who recently named Sezen an ASCE Fellow. Fellows, states the organization, "have made celebrated contributions and developed creative solutions that change lives around the world".

The American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society. Less than 4% of its membership achieves the designation of fellow.
