2015 WOCA award recipient

Maria Amaya, CEGE undergraduate, recently co-received the 2015 World of Coal Ash Student Oral Presentation Award – For Excellence in the Field of Ash Research.  The award was presented in May at the 2015 World of Coal Ash Conference.  She received an engraved plaque and $500.00.   Amaya is working with Dr. Tarunjit Butalia, Director of Coal Combustion Products program, on a research project dealing with beneficial uses of Chinese coal combustion residues.  Maria had earlier received a scholarship award to present her paper at this same conference.

WOCA is an international conference organized by the American Coal Ash Association (ACAA) and the University of Kentucky - Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER). The 2015 conference marked the two organizations' sixth joint biennial meeting. It focused on the science, applications and sustainability of coal ash worldwide and encompassed all aspects of coal combustion products (CCP's) as well as gasification products
