ASCE service project

Posted:

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter at The Ohio State University recently returned from a trip to Immokalee, FL where they participated in a service project with Habitat for Humanity. While in Florida, the group assisted in the building of a new house, renovation of an old house and general community clean-up.  This community service project allowed the students to incorporate what they have been learning in their civil engineering courses and apply that knowledge to building the new house.

ASCE members got to experience the joys of using new tools and learning new techniques while also experiencing the pain of blisters from removing floor tile. This trip was so much more than a service project, the students learned about the community and experienced much more than just the proper use of a nail gun. Every member returned with a new appreciation of the opportunities available to them.  The ASCE group hopes to continue their partnership with Habitat for Humanity here in the Columbus area.
