Barry Tolchin will present at ACPA national convention

Posted:

Barry Tolchin - CEGE Academic Advisor and Staff Assistant - will be presenting at the National Convention for the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) March 5th – 8th in Tampa, Florida, along with other Ohio State academic advisors. Their presentation, Flipping the Script in Higher Education, will discuss the use of the “Flipped” Classroom Model in Higher Education. This model uses recorded lectures viewed outside of class, to allow students to participate in activities and discussion inside of the classroom. Barry will be discussing his use of this model in teaching our first-year and transfer students in our Civil and Environmental Engineering Survey courses. The group will also discuss how this model can be applied to other university processes, including staff training and hiring, and first-year orientation.  More information about the presentation is on the group’s website: http://u.osu.edu/flipped/

Our congratulations goes out to Barry for his participation and completion of the Professional Development Self-Assessment (Tier 2) of the Professional Development Incentive Program created by the Academic Advising Association of The Ohio State University (ACADAOS).  This is quite an accomplishment and honor for Barry and a benefit to our CEGE department and students.
