Chi Epsilon visits middle school classroom

Two members of the Civil Engineering Chi Epsilon Honorary Society visited Karrer Middle School in Dublin Ohio recently to engage 7th graders in an engineering activity.   Mariah Yaufman, civil engineering senior, and Nathan Yencho civil engineering graduate student, along with their advisor, Ethan Kubatko, challenged the students to, "build the tallest tower you can."

The students were given limited materials and direction then set loose to use their imagination to complete the challenge.  Along the way, obstacles were put in place like removing building materials because of cost which provided real world challenges and required on the spot adjustments.

The visit was featured in ThisWeek Commmunity News for Dublin and can be read here.  The story was also linked in the First Bell customized briefings of ASEE.
