The College of Engineering is pleased to introduce Dr. Dorota A. Grejner-Brzezinska as the new Chair of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering.

Professor Brzezinska obtained her PhD in Geodetic Science from The Ohio State University in 1995 and joined the civil engineering faculty in 1998.  Shortly after, she established the Satellite Positioning and Inertial Navigation (SPIN) Laboratory.  Her research focuses on Global Positioning System (GPS) and other space-based location technologies, inertial navigation, and sensor integration for assured location and navigation.  Since joining the faculty at OSU she has advised twelve PhD students to completion and continues to advise six more.  Her publications are numerous with over 300 peer reviewed and proceedings papers, and five book chapters on GPS and other positioning techniques.

She has been principal investigator to many research projects and holds numerous high-level elected offices in national and international organizations including Executive Vice-President of the Institute of Navigation (ION) and President of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) Commission 4 “Positioning and Applications.”  She serves as an expert for the National Academies Transportation Research Board and is an ION and IAG Fellow.

In recognition for her significant research contributions, Brzezinska has received many honors and awards such as: the ION Thurlow Award for outstanding contributions to the science of navigation;  US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation Academic Research Award for research on a personal navigator relevant to national security; several ION Best Presentation Awards; Environmental Science Research Institute (ESRI) Award for Best Scientific Paper in Geographic Information Systems; American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Talbert Abrams Award 2nd Honorable Mention; OSU College of Engineering Lumley Research Award and Interdisciplinary Lumley Research Award; Harrison Award for Excellence in Engineering Education; NASA New Investigator Program (NIP) Award; and was a semifinalist in 2010 and 2011 for the TechColumbus Innovation Award for Outstanding Woman in Technology.

Please join us in welcoming Dorota Brzezinska as Ohio State’s eighteenth civil engineering department chair.  We wish her much success in her tenure as she strives to make the department a more dynamic academic environment dedicated to the development of student innovation, excellence in interdisciplinary research and active collaboration and engagement with industry and alumni.
