Ayres Places Second at Denman Forum

Posted:

Craig Ayres, undergraduate student in Environmental Engineering, placed second in the Engineering category at the 18th annual Richard J. and Martha D. Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. The Denman Forum highlights undergraduate research at The Ohio State University.  Faculty judges review the student presentations.  More than 700 students participated in 11 categories at the forum which was held on March 29, 2013 at the Recreation Physical and Activity Center (RPAC) on campus.

Craig worked very closely with Ph.D. student Matthew Noerpel to conduct the research presented in his poster entitled “Developing Methodology to Prepare a Nanoparticle-Coated Crystal for Infrared Analyses.”  The work was advised by Dr. John J. Lenhart and represents a method that could be used to characterize how the surface of nanomaterials could be modified as they age in the environment.  Such changes are important for determining the mobility of nanomaterials in the environment, which is critical to determining whether they pose a risk to human health or ecosystems.

Congratulations Craig!
