Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Subsurface Energy and Infrastructure. The US and the world are in the midst of an energy boom driven by improvements in shale energy extraction that is anticipated to extend for several decades. The fields of civil, environmental, and geodetic engineering embody multiple disciplines essential for research and education in support of developments in this area. Applicants with research expertise encompassing the various aspects of the life-cycle of energy systems will be considered. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to infrastructure design; operations, transportation, and transmission; quantification and mitigation of environmental impacts; risk, reliability and resilience; and policy analysis and formulation. Strong foundations in complementary disciplines including systems engineering, operations research, economics, and statistics are desirable. The department, college and university are making significant investments in the areas of sustainability, energy, the environment, and transportation. Two examples of the university’s targeted efforts in this area include the establishment of the Office for Energy and the Environment and the Subsurface Energy Resource Center.
