Summer Honors Research Scholarship

Posted:

Third year civil engineering student, Ebiji Akah has been selected by the Undergraduate Research Office to receive a Summer Honors Research Scholarship.   The selection committee was impressed with his compelling proposal and the deep commitment from his mentor, Professor Halil Sezen.

These $2,800 research scholarships give promising honors sophomores and juniors the opportunity to enhance the quality of their senior Honors Research Projects.  Selected students will spend approximately 40 hours a week doing research over an eight-week period.

Ebiji hopes to study structural engineering in graduate school.  In his spare time, he serves as Secretary of TEXNIKOI, Treasurer of Lambda Psi Engineering Honorary, as well as Treasurer for the OSU Rollerblade Club.

Ebiji was introduced to research through the 2011 Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied small-scale testing of high-rise building designs as a part of Earthquake Engineering. His current research focuses on progressive collapse and analyzing the potential for collapse. This research is for the purpose of validating or updating current building design guidelines and column removal processes.

Congratulations Ebiji and good luck with your summer research!
