Civil Engineering Career Day

Posted:

On April 25, 2012, the Central Ohio Section of ASCE once again sponsored a Civil Engineering Career Day!

Five Central Ohio high schools were represented with a total of 22 students participating.  The day began with a tour of the completed Lane Avenue Bridge and included the Dodridge Street Bridge, which is still under construction.  The tour was given by Jim Pajk and Mike Bashore with Franklin County Engineers Office.

The next stop was the OSU Olentangy River Wetland Park where Dr. William Mitsch gave an impromptu talk.  Lunch was held at the OSU/Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center that is  LEED Certified.  During lunch, Dr. Carolyn Merry,  Professor and Chair (OSU) and Dr. Teruhisa Masada, Professor and Assistant Chair (OU) both gave overviews of the civil engineering programs at their respective colleges.  The day concluded with a tour of the new downtown Hilton Convention Center Hotel.  Tyler Slane from Turner Construction gave an interesting interactive tour that ended with a question and answer session and some great prizes for the students.

Thanks to everyone involved in making this another successful event!
