Estimating Team Places First

Posted:

Kokosing Construction, along with the civil engineering department, sponsored a student team to participate in the 12th Annual Ohio Contractors Association Estimating Competition in mid-February.  The OSU team placed first, succeeded by Cincinnati, and then by Ohio Northern.  The Ohio Contractors Association Estimating Competition is a student competition of major Ohio universities.  This year’s competing schools included Ohio Northern, Toledo, Akron, Cincinnati, Dayton, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Youngstown State, Ohio University, and Ohio State.  The competition took place over three days, with a full day of estimating and a day of oral presentations.  Prominent members in the construction industry scored the teams on bid submittal and oral presentation.

The OSU team was comprised of five seniors and one junior representative who will return to lead the team in next year’s competition.  Team members were Cody Beucler, Andrea Mobley, Brooke Mathews, Mark Herber, Mark Nemergut, and Chelsea McManamon.  All are civil engineering majors and most are specializing in construction.  Team members must have taken the construction estimating course to gain basic knowledge needed to compete.  Outside of the course, the team met with Kokosing Construction Company representatives to further prepare for the competition.

The 2012 Ohio State Estimating Team would like to thank the civil engineering department and Kokosing Construction for their support.
