[ibimage==773==standard_medium==none==self==ibimage_Right]Alumni and other friends of The Ohio State University are a passionate group. They remember their Ohio State ties by serving as university ambassadors around the world.  A handful of these ambassadors truly stand out. It is for this exceptional group that in 1952 university trustees established the Distinguished Service Award.

Civil engineering graduate, William “Bill” Lhota, is a member of this elite group.  At the 397th commencement ceremonies of The Ohio State University, Mr. Lhota was recognized for his generous contributions of time, talents, and ideas by the conferring of the 2011 Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Lhota is the president and chief executive officer of the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).  He maintains an ongoing relationship between Ohio State and COTA by contributing to research projects on transportation in the civil department.   In addition, he collaborated with Ohio State’s Transportation and Parking Services to identify solutions to mass transit problems.

As an active member of the College of Engineering Strategy Council he has helped guide numerous college initiatives.  Most recently he served on the search committee to select the dean of engineering.  Mr. Lhota is a member and chair of The Ohio State University Alumni Association board of directors and co-chair of a task force to realign and modernize university advancement efforts.

A recipient of The Ohio State University Distinguished Alumni Award, Mr. Lhota also has been inducted by Junior Achievement into the Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame in recognition of his service and leadership.

Congratulations to Bill for his faithful and distinguished service to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science and The Ohio State University.[ibimage==772==standard_large==none==self==ibimage_Left]
