Elizabeth Riter received a big surprise on Friday, April 29th.  Dr. Kathleen Wallace, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School, presented her with 2011 Graduate Associate Teaching Award

[ibimage==585==original==standard_medium==self==ibimage_Right]The Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA) is Ohio State's highest recognition of the exceptional teaching provided by graduate students. Approximately 3,000 graduate students teach as graduate teaching associates at Ohio State each year, and 10 are honored as GATA winners by the university community. Each winner receives a $1,500 award.

Elizabeth is a Civil Engineering Master's student from Strongsville, Ohio and TA’s in the First-Year Engineering Program. Her graduate research is in the development of a tutorial aiding the education of students in structural engineering. The focus of the tutorial is structural analysis of steel structures. She is also involved in research within the First-Year Engineering program, where she TA’s. The focus of this research is the development of a new first year design/build portion of a course and its effects on the students.  A statement from a faculty letter of recommendation states, “I can honestly say that I have never know of or supervised a GTA who has more natural talent, paired with an overwhelming desire, for excellence in teaching as Liz does."

Congratulations Elizabeth on this well-deserved honor.
