Dr. Deren Li, Chair of the Academic Committee of Wuhan University and the National Key Laboratory for Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS) holds membership in both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. On Novermber 23, Dr. Li visited CEEGS and presented a lecture on recent research advances in geoinformation at Wuhan University. In the presentation, he introduced recent research developments in remote sensing (RS), global positioning systems (GPS), and geographic information systems (GIS). DPGrid is a new generation of digital photogrammetric workstation capable of cluster computing. Digital Cultural Heritage is an efficient method for culture protection as exemplified by the digital preservation of Mogao Grottos, also referred to as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas. A new model of a geospatial information service based has been developed that is based on DMI (Digital Measurable Image), a new digital product obtained from mobile mapping systems.
