Ray Takes First Place at AWWA Conference

Ruiyang "Ray" Xiao, PhD candidate in environmental engineering, earned the first place award in the student paper competition at 2010 Ohio Section AWWA 72nd Annual Conference held September 22, 2010.  His research paper was titled, "Sonochemical Degradation of Selected Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products Using Continuous and Pulsed Ultrasound in Aqueous Solution."

In addition to his first place award, the National Young Professionals Committee and the National MAC Committee selected Ray as the "Fresh Ideas" award winner in the student poster competition. He will represent the State of Ohio with his paper "Simple and Efficient Sonochemical Degradation of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in Aqueous Solutions" at the National ACE Conference  in Washington DC in June 2011.

Ray received his BS from Hunan Agriculture University in China. He then completed his MS at Ohio State. He is currently working on his PhD with Professor Linda Weavers and plans to complete his studies in the Spring 2012. Ray is a member of AWWA and ACS.
