KWEST Lab members - Gingerich
Dr. Daniel Gingerich is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Civil, Environmental, and Geodetic Engineering and Integrated Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University. He is also a Core Faculty member of the Sustainability Institute. His research lies at the intersection of environmental engineering and society and supporting a transition to more resilient and sustainable environmental infrastructure. In particular, he focuses on evaluating emerging processes for environmental systems, the policies that drive change in our infrastructure, and how people perceive their infrastructure. He draws on a rich toolkit of engineering methods (e.g., techno-economic assessment and environmental life-cycle analysis), policy analysis tools (e.g., benefit cost-analysis and econometrics), and decision analysis principles (e.g., multi-attribute utility theory and decision support tool development) to answer these questions. In addition to this methodological expertise, Dr. Gingerich has domain expertise in tfossil fuel power plants and municipal water treatment systems.
Prior to coming to Ohio State, Dr. Gingerich earned a Ph.D. in Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. His dissertation research developed new methods to incorporate life-cycle assessment into regulatory decision making around risk and evaluating emerging water treatment technologies to reduce environmental risks from the water treatment sector. Dr. Gingerich completed his post-doctoral training through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science Education with the National Energy Technology Laboratory and as a visitor in the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and Stanford University. He earned an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Auburn University and Bachelor's degrees in Civil Engineering and Political Science from Mississippi State University.
His teaching at Ohio State will focus on engineering decision making and sustainability.
When he is not working, Dr. Gingerich can probably be found baking.
