CEGSP Eligibility

Admission standards for the Civil Engineering Graduate Studies Program (CEGSP) and the Master of Structural Engineering professional program are set by the Civil Engineering Graduate Studies Committee and Ohio State's Graduate School. Currently, general admission criteria include:

  • A four year bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or closely related area) from an accredited institution.

    • Applicants holding a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BET) degree from an ABET accredited institution or other closely related degrees may apply to the MS degree program only after satisfactory completion of the courses constituting The Ohio State University Civil Engineering Undergraduate Curriculum Core. Determination of the specific courses to be made up will be made during the application review. (Applicants holding a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BET) degree from a program that is not ABET accredited do not fulfill the admission criteria and will not be considered for admission to the MS degree program.)

  • A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in the most recent degree earned. If GPA is not on a 4.0 scale, please reference these instructions for calculating self-reported GPA. Applicants with a cumulative undergraduate GPA below 3.0 are required to submit official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test scores.

  • International applicants - English Language Proficiency (learn more):

    • Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

    • 7.0 on International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
