Richard French

Richard (Dick) French passed away on Dec.8, 2014 in Henderson Nevada.  He graduated from The Ohio State University Department of Civil Engineering with a B.S. (1971), M.S. (1972), and Ph.D. (1975), from UC Berkeley College of Engineering. 

Dick’s career was in teaching and research at Vanderbilt University TN, the Desert Research Institute, Las Vegas and University of Texas, San Antonio.  Dick was a Registered Professional Engineer in Nevada, California, and Arizona.  He served as president of the Arizona Section of ASCE and was a member of numerous other professional committees.  He has authored several technical books on arid land hydrology, alluvial fan hydraulics and open channel hydraulics.  As a student member of OSU Chi Epsilon, Richard was instrumental in surveying the campus facilities and presenting a proposal to the civil engineering department for the creation of a student lounge.  The proposal was accepted and implemented and is still used by our students. 

In 2004 Richard was the recipient of the OSU Civil Engineering Alumni Association Outstanding Civil Engineering Alumni Award.
