Recent graduate joins University of Kentucky faculty

Mariantonieta Gutierrez Soto, Ph.D has been appointed Assistant Professor in the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky. While teaching courses in U.K.'s Department of Civil Engineering, Professor Soto also directs research in the Soto Smart Structures Research Lab, a multidisciplinary research group investigating smart civil engineering infrastructure.

Dr. Gutierrez Soto earned her M.S. in civil engineering in 2012 and her Ph.D. in civil engineering in 2017 from Ohio State. An academic advisee of Hojjat Adeli, Faculty Emeritus, she earned many honors during her time on the Columbus campus, including being named a Presidential Fellow in 2016-2017.

Professor Gutierrez Soto will teach a class on Matrix Structural Analysis this fall. This particular course was a favorite from her days as a Buckeye student and is one that she hopes will "inspire students' love for structures like you (Tarunjit Butalia, Research Associate Professor, CEGE) did for me."
