Assistant Professor, Resilient Infrastructure

The Ohio State University, Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geodetic Engineering (CEGE) and Department of Integrated Systems Engineering (ISE) invite applications for a tenure-track position in the field of risk assessment of infrastructure systems. The position is anticipated to be filled at the assistant or associate professor level. Fundamental knowledge in civil and/or industrial engineering or closely related disciplines is expected. Specific research expertise expected in the following research areas: infrastructure risk analysis; probabilistic risk assessment and simulation methods for disaster loss mitigation; life cycle cost analysis of infrastructure systems; infrastructure and sustainability engineering and policy; statistical techniques and uncertainty analysis with applications on infrastructure systems such as electric power infrastructure or drinking water distribution systems; and infrastructure development, resilience, and sustainability. The CEGE and ISE departments, college, and university are making significant investments in the fields of sustainability and resilience in support of affirming OSU as a global leader in these fields. Thus, a strong potential to collaborate within the department and across the university is desirable. This position is partially funded by The Ohio State's Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact.


The successful candidate is expected to: develop an active research program, effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the CEGE and ISE departments, supervise and mentor graduate students, be involved in service within the departments, across the university, and in appropriate professional communities. THE CEGE faculty members support ABET-accredited degree programs with more than 100 graduate and 600 undergraduate students, and numerous funded multidisciplinary research programs (see ceg.osu.edu/ for more information about the department). An earned doctoral degree in civil or industrial engineering or a closely related field is required prior to the anticipated start date of August 2017.
