Biographical Narrative

Rabi Mishalani is an associate professor at The Ohio State University with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science. Prior to his joining the faculty at OSU in September 1997, he was a research scientist at MIT's Center for Transportation and Logistics. His areas of interest and expertise include the application of probability modeling and statistical methods to the planning and managing of public transportation and transportation infrastructure systems. While based on an analytical foundation, his research activities are motivated by contemporary problems facing the transportation community and rely on using the contexts within which these problems lie as research laboratories. He is playing a lead role in developing OSU's extensive transit service into the Campus Transit Lab (CTL), which is already supporting research, education, and outreach (for more information, see video at http://ceg.osu.edu/news/2011/06/campus-transit-lab). Rabi Mishalani is the co-director of the US DOT Region V University Transportation Center in partnership with Purdue University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also a co-principal investigator on the US DOT Federal Transit Administration funded program at OSU focusing on applications of emerging vehicle location and passenger count sensing. Prior activities include his role as principal or co-principle investigator on research projects funded by national agencies including NSF, US DOT's Research and Innovative Technology Administration, and NASA. He is an associate editor of ASCE's Journal of Infrastructure Systems and a scientific committee member for the 13th World Conference on Transportation Research, Rio de Janeiro, 2013. He won the National Science Foundation CAREER award in September 2001. Rabi Mishalani received his PhD and SM degrees (in CEE and Transportation Systems, respectively) from MIT and his BE degree (in CE) from American University of Beirut.
